Electrify America operates one of the largest DC fast charging networks in the country. It also offers discounts to EV drivers from certain auto brands and those who drive for the gig economy.
Guests pay for charging at a station by tapping their vehicle’s digital membership card or mobile wallet against the digital reader or using the Electrify America app. Members pay a monthly fee that reduces per-minute rates.
Discounts
Electrify America LLC operates the country’s largest accessible DC fast charging network. Its commitment to EVs has included an investment of more than $2 billion in bolstering the technology and expanding its reach so that range anxiety becomes a thing of the past.
Currently, the company offers a variety of benefits including free charging sessions, discounts for new EV owners, and more. It also offers home charging solutions and specialized solutions for commercial businesses. Its free charging services can be used with any EV, whether it’s a new or old model.
Electrify America has recently extended its collaboration with Lyft to provide discounted rates for the ride-hailing company’s EV drivers. These discounts will be available on all EA chargers coast to coast in the United States. The company will also update its pricing structure to reflect station-specific rates. This change will take effect later this month. The company will notify customers through email and social media.
Access to Electrify America’s Charging Stations
As one of the largest open public DC fast charging networks in the United States, Electrify America offers drivers of nearly all major EVs an opportunity to charge their cars on the go. Its stations feature the nonproprietary connector standards CCS and CHAdeMO, which mean most EVs can use them.
Electrify America’s stations are located throughout the country in places like parking garages at big-box stores and shopping malls, as well as highway rest stops. They also offer a range of amenities, such as shade canopies and awnings, and some have a customer waiting area.
To access a station, you can either tap your car against the digital reader or scan your mobile wallet using the Electrify America app. Pass, Pass+ and Premium Offer members can pay by tapping their digital membership card against the reader or through their car manufacturer’s app. In addition, Electrify America has an auto-reload feature that lets EV owners set the amount of money they want their account to be automatically topped up with.
Remote Charging
Electrify America has a network of DC fast chargers to help you extend your range on road trips. It’s one of the largest public charging networks in the United States, second only to Tesla’s Superchargers.
Whether you’re on a short trip or a long one, the Electrify America app allows you to plan and monitor your EV’s charging sessions. You can also find the location of nearby stations using a map or search via networks like Plugshare.
Once you’re at a station, tap your mobile phone against the digital reader or use a supported automaker’s app to pay for electricity. Then, insert the connector into your car’s port. Once the EV interacts with the charger and determines which power level it can accept, you’ll see your per-minute rate displayed on the charger’s screen. Typically, it costs $0.43 per kilowatt hour for guests and Pass+ members pay a lower rate of $0.36. Your charging session will then start.
Mobile Charging
The Electrify America app lets you find a charger and manage your charging session. Their stations feature powerful DC fast charging using CCS connections, allowing you to add miles in as little as 30 minutes.
The network also has a number of Level 2 chargers that can power EVs at a slower rate. Electrify America’s pricing structure varies by state, but it’s among the most transparent when it comes to charging costs — rates are usually based on time spent charging (not energy used), and a Pass+ membership offers lower prices.
New 2021, 2022, and 2023 Hyundai KONA Electric and Kia IONIQ 5 drivers get three years of complimentary DC fast charging on the Electrify America nationwide network, up to 250 kWh per year. Terms and conditions apply. The complimentary charging is non-transferable and is only available for personal use. Idle fees may apply after a 10-minute grace period, and users are responsible for any taxes.
